Basic set up of Workflows

The quickest way to get started with CCH Central Workflow is to use the standard templates that come pre-installed. We have a range of templates available which cover compliance activities, as well as non-compliance processes and billing automation. Here you can find out how to implement, progress and report on a workflow.

There are six aspects to consider when using a workflow for the first time:

1. Choosing a template
2. Starting a workflow
3. Setting up the homepage
4. Progressing workflows
5. Workflow reporting
6. Completed workflows

1. Choosing a template

There are a number of workflow templates built into CCH Central, including our "Catalogue" of compliance and non-compliance workflows. These catalogue workflows are listed below, and you can click on the link to view the description, diagrams and information on how to implement each workflow.

More generally, here is a video, 'Choosing a Workflow Template', which has guidance on viewing and choosing templates.

2. Starting a workflow

To start a workflow, it will need to be attached to a client, either directly or via a tax return, set of accounts, job, bill or document.

This video, 'Starting a Workflow', shows how this is done in the case of Accounts Production, and Tax Return workflows.

3. Setting up the homepage

Generally, workflows are progressed and reported on by using the Central homepages (although there are alternative places this can be done).

Here is a video, 'Setting up the homepage', which describes how to setup a user's homepage.

4. Progressing workflows

Workflows can be progressed from the homepage, using either the workflow or tasks control, or within a tax return, job or set of accounts.

This video, 'Progressing workflows', shows how this is done.

5. Workflow reporting

The homepages are the key to reporting on the progress of workflows in your system. As well as monitoring each process, you can see totals and charts which give you an overview of the current position.

Here is a video, 'Workflow reporting', which shows how to use the homepage controls for your reporting requirements.

6. Completed workflows

Once a workflow has been completed, it will be removed from the homepage view.

See this video, 'Completed workflows', to see how you can include completed workflows in your reporting if required.
