User Preferences
The Tax User Preferences tab allows you to specify what headings appear on the tax window tabs and in what order.
- Select Maintenance > Tax Settings > User Preferences from the menu. The Tax user preferences dialog appears.
- Click the check box next to the heading, e.g. Return Type, a tick indicates that the heading will appear in the tab. Under 'Example', at the bottom you can see what the finished tab will look like.
- To change the order of the headings, click the heading and then use the Move Up and Move Down buttons.
- Click OK to save.
Ribbon Bar Options
By default the Task Bar appears at the left hand side of the CCH Personal Tax window. It allows you to quickly navigate to or use various options relating to the window or tab shown. For example, on the tab for the SA100, you can delete a tax return, hide unused sources or view a tax return.
The available options on the Ribbon Bar change depending upon where you are in the software. Therefore, it is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the Ribbon Bar each time you enter a new window or tab.
Tax Home Page Views
You can customise the Home Page so that you can display and quickly access information that is appropriate to how you use CCH Personal Tax. You can define up to four different Views with different names
- Click the Home Page - Main view tab.
- Under Views on the Ribbon Bar select the view that you would like to customise. For example, Main View, View 2, etc.
- Click Customise homepage on the Ribbon Bar. The Toolbox appears displaying the currently installed applications.
- On the Toolbox, highlight Personal Tax and drag a control from the top, e.g. Client list onto the content area of the view you selected. For example, if you selected the Home Page - Main view tab then you should drag the control into the area you would like to position it.
- You can change the name of the view, to do this, click the edit on the Ribbon Bar, click a view (for example, Main View). You are then able to rename the view.
- Change the name of the view to something more meaningful to you, for example: My Home Page.
- Click Save.
- Close the Toolbox and leave the Customise homepage mode.
Note:
What you see when you select an option in the Toolbox is limited to your security access permissions — you may only see blank windows if you only have limited access. The system administrator sets up the security access permissions.
Tax Toolbar Options
A toolbar appears at top of each tax section and it allows you to quickly access common functions

Tax Quick links
At the top of each section are quick links. Click these links to display details about the selected client, the status of the tax return, or the different sections contained within the tax return.
